Its primary mechanism of action is to produce bioluminescence through an ATP-dependent oxidative reaction catalyzed by luciferase in the presence of magnesium ions (Mg²⁺) and oxygen . This reaction emits a characteristic yellow-green light with a peak wavelength of approximately 560 nm in vitro.
